Privacy Policy — Zappy

What Zappy does with your data
Zappy translates text you select on webpages using an AI provider of your choice.
Here's exactly what happens when you use it:
- You select text on a webpage
- Zappy sends that text to your AI provider (DeepSeek, OpenAI, or compatible)
- The translation comes back and appears on your screen
- That's it
What Zappy collects
Nothing.
Zappy has no servers. We do not collect, store, or process your text, your translations, or your browsing history.
What is stored locally
Your API key is stored in Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) — on your device only. It never leaves your browser except to authenticate with your chosen AI provider.
Your saved translation bookmarks are also stored locally in the same way.
Your AI provider
When you translate text, it goes from your browser directly to the AI provider whose key you entered. That provider's own privacy policy applies to how they handle your data.
Common providers:
We recommend reviewing your provider's policy if you're translating sensitive content.
Permissions
Zappy requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage — to save your API key and bookmarks locally on your device
- activeTab — to read the text you select on the current tab
- host_permissions: <all_urls> — to work on any website you visit (translation only activates when you select text)
Third parties
Zappy does not share data with any third party. We have no analytics, no tracking, no advertising.
Children's privacy
Zappy does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, the new version will be published at this URL with an updated date.
